I was Charged with Possession with Intent Within 1000 Feet of a School Zone

Transcript

If you've been charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, or CDS, within 1,000 feet of a school zone, it's imperative that you contact an attorney immediately. Possession with intent within 1,000 feet of a school zone is slightly different than your normal possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance in that state prison is mandatory, as well as a period of parole ineligibility. Now, what does that mean? That means that if you receive a 3-year sentence to New Jersey State Prison, you could have to serve up to 18 months of that sentence before you're eligible for parole. So, just to understand the difference between having parole ineligibility and not, on a normal 3-year sentence, you would be eligible for parole after about 9 months.

So you'd be looking at doing about 9 months additional because you possessed it with the intent to distribute in a school zone. So it is important that you find an attorney who is extremely experienced in dealing with these types of cases, uh, to make sure that you were actually in that 1,000 feet of that school, um, and to make sure that they can actually prove their case.
